The Crime Commission is proud to team up with a group of students from Booker T. Washington High School on a new project aimed to stop teen texting while driving.

Generation tXt is a multi-faceted project designed by a diverse group of teens to help young teens and families practice safe driving, specifically by addressing the hazards of texting/emailing while driving. The project’s goals will be accomplished through culturally appropriate educational and advertising campaigns, concerted efforts to change public policy, and promotion of emerging technology which restricts cell phone use while driving. Outcomes measurement will assess the reduction in crashes, personal injury/morbidity, and mortality.

The team has submitted a grant to State Farm Youth Advisory Board to fund the project. If awarded, full implementation will begin in February 2010. Check out the logo designs and the team at work in the photo gallery below. Soon Generation tXt will have their own website. Keep checking back for more information.
